I have a great metabolism, but the problem is that I work two jobs and I’m in school, so I never have more than an hour every couple of days to exercise- and I eat like crazy, I’m always hungry; its a miracle I’m not overweight. So my weight is between 136 and 142 lately, and I want to go down to about 125-130 (i’m 5′8). I have something called Slimquick, and I figured that since I only exercise on average about 3 to 3/12 hours each week, it can help me get to the weight I want to be since I don’t have more free time to work out. But will it ruin my metabolism? B/c like I said, I have a really good one and I’d die if I couldn’t eat whatever I wanted!

Last year I was visiting my parents and took diet pills on top on my exercise routine and normal diet. I was 26 at the time, 5′11, 180 lbs. By week three I was sick. I had diarrhea, dry heaves, dizziness, headaches, and a general feeling of being sick. I thought I had caught the flu or something. I had lost 13 lbs in 4 days. One morning I told my mom I didn’t feel good. My vision kept blacking out and I felt (for lack of a better way to say it) stoned. Later that afternoon I was walking from the bathroom to my bedroom (a 5 foot walk) and I passed out. I was rushed to the hospital emergency where they did a bunch of tests on me.
My pulse was up to 120, My blood pressure was 150/40, they had to start me on an IV, the did an EKG on me, took blood and urine samples, and a whole barrage of other tests.
They finally got me stabilized and said that I was dehydrated and malnutritioned. I told him that I took diet pills. When I mentioned diet pill, the doctors face lit up and said that’s why. He said they can cause a whole bunch of health problems, including death. He told me to toss the diet pills or next time I might not be so lucky.

I was kept in the hospital for almost 10 hours, given 3 or 4 IVs, potassium, juices, and monitored (by the EKG, blood pressure, and heart rate machines) every 15 minutes.
Please take my story as a warning. If you seriously want to loose weight there are better ways (I know because I’ve lost weight after this)
The quickest way is to cut out red meats, starches, breads, sugars, alcohol, and sodas.
Eat veggies (salads are good), soups, and drink TONS of water. If you get hungry between a meal, drink water to fill up.
In moderation eat white meats, and fruits (fruits contain natural sugars, and that can put on weight)
Practice portion control. Yes, you’ll feel hungry at first, but think of your goal, and soon your stomach will start shrinking and you won’t have that feeling anymore.
Eat 5 times a day. A small breakfast. A mid-morning snack, such as an apple. A small lunch. A mid-afternoon snack, such as carrots. A lite dinner. Do not eat any later than 7pm (6pm is better.)
Go exercise for at least an hour – two a day, incorporating weight training along with your cardio. Cardio helps to melt the fat, while weight training builds muscle. Muscle burns fat, even when you are resting. You get the idea. It also gives tone and definition. Also do a few yoga and pilates exercises to help tone those hard to reach and stubborn areas.

I had been doing ok on my first week of induction but by week 3 had become dependent on the atkins bars as a quick snack during my shift work. My weight had stalled and then started to creep up a little and i was sticking to the diet to the letter. I then found that the bars can stall you. I was crushed after nearly three weeks of torture and good behaviour on this weird diet that is alleged to be a miracle cure. I ended up having a binge on the atkins chocolate bars cos i needed real chocolate and ended up feeling really sick and depressed. Then today i ate an easter egg and some sweets, which has completely ruined my atkins diet. if i go back on it tomorrow and cut out all the atkins bars will it carry on working? Or will it take a few days to kick in again?
I actually don’t know if i have the will power to continue. It was horrific. I was becoming obsessed. I’m thinking of giving it up and moving on to the slimming world diet. I only have about a stone to lose anyway…

I’m trying to lose weight pretty quickly (about 3 lbs per week would be ideal!) and I need help. I start off strong and then by the afternoon I lose all will power and just eat. For example, this is what happened today:
6:00 AM – 1/2 cup cottage cheese and a nectarine
9:30- Banana
12:00- Turkey Wrap with a whole wheat, reduced-carb tortilla and light miracle whip
and then about 3:00- A CANNOLI!! It was sooo good…my mom bought them as a surprise and I ate it…it was mini but still…I feel so guilty and this happens almost every day! I splurge on calories when I get home from school
And I was going to go to the movies later…but I can’t avoid the concession stand…I always end up getting something and blowing off my diet…i don’t want to- it just happens!
Please don’t be afraid to be harsh! Kick my butt into shape and please give me some guidance and motivation!!

first of all 1-2lbs a week is ideal…anything more is unhealthy. Did u put veggies on the wrap? They help fill you up. A mini cannoli isn’t the worst thing in the world….a whole box of donuts…now that would be bad. it’s important to allow yourself a treat every now and then or you’ll go crazy and end up splurging. Can u try going to the movies with only money for the ticket so you can’t buy food? I’m in the same boat as you…I have NO willpower…good luck, darling! and it sounds like you have a sweet mom, but try telling her your goals and then maybe instead of bringing home surprise cannolis she can bring home a magazine or new make up or something…i want to add that you don’t need to lose weight! i just read your addition…..try strength training to build muscle and tone up instead of just dieting….and for heavens sake don’t tell yourself you’re fat because then you’ll end up with a self-esteem issue!!!!

I never thought I’d be worried I wasn’t eating enough, but…
Here is a typical day’s food, at least on my current diet plan:
7 am Omelet (one egg, three egg whites, various spices, salsa…NOT cooked in butter)
10 am Piece of fruit (apple, orange, pear), maybe one cup of cottage cheese
12-1 pm Tuna fish sandwich (whole wheat bread, canned tuna, celery, low-fat Miracle Whip, lettuce)
3-4 pm Piece of fruit, maybe 1 cup of cottage cheese
7 pm Homemade chili or turkey burger, perhaps 2 cup serving
